Essential Steps for Building a New Home

Step 1:  Initial Consultation

Since there are many options to consider when building a new home,  we offer a no-obligation consultation to ensure you have the knowledge to make informed choices throughout the home building process. During the initial consultation, we cover topics such as home features, construction budget, and financing options.  If you haven’t already, you’ll want to speak with your mortgage lender, accountant, or financial planner to confirm your budget so we can ensure we work within those parameters.  It is helpful to have acquired or be in the process of acquiring a home-site before the initial consultation. With the specifications & requirements for your home-site, we can offer an accurate estimate for your home build.

Step 2:  Design & Selections

Once a Pre-Construction Agreement is submitted, we will start the Design Phase for your custom home.  Bring your wish list of ideas along with any inspiration photos and we will combine these with your lifestyle to design your dream home. Whether you have design ideas or looking for inspiration from a home building expert, our team is here to ensure your new dream home is designed within your style and budget.

Step 3:  Contract & Financing

Once the design of you home has been finalized, a revised estimate and contract documents will be provided for your review. Upon approval, a copy of all construction documents will be shared with a construction manager and a financing institution for loan approval. During the loan approval process, the construction manager will provide a construction schedule and access to our online construction portal. Rest assured your lender will do a full appraisal of the home to ensure that your home is priced appropriately and will work with the title company to get started with the closing process.

Step 4:  Permitting & Building

Once your loan has been approved, permits received, and a notice of commencement has been recorded, our construction team will schedule a kick-off meeting and commence work in accordance with the approved contract documents and schedule. Construction time varies based on the specifics of your home. During the construction process you will meet with the construction manager at the homesite to ensure design and plan details are appropriately translated.  Rest assured that quality materials are being utilized to make your dream home a reality.

Step 5:  Punch Out & Move-In

Once a certificate of occupancy is issued, and punch-out items have been completed, you will be able to move into your new custom dream home.  Imagine the feeling of accomplishment having made your dream a reality for your loved ones to enjoy for generations.  Not only did you invest in a green, energy-efficient home, but one that was designed for your specific lifestyle.  Rest assured that you are covered by a 2-10 builder warranty. This warranty covers mechanical, plumbing, and electrical defects for 2 years and structural defects for a 10 year period. All other areas of your home are covered by a 1-year limited warranty through KHP Homes and standard manufacturer warranties as applicable.

Step 6:  Welcome Home!
